Hi! I’m Desiree.
I’m a convert to the Catholic Church; I came into the Church at the Easter Vigil 2016 along with my husband Mark and our 8 children, now aged 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 16, and 17. I’ve recently relocated to central Missouri, after having lived most of my adult life in Utah.
I traveled a long road to come home to the Church. Along the way, I got my B.A. in Biblical Studies, while Mark earned a doctorate in Theology. I have been a “none,” a United Methodist, a Free Methodist, an Orthodox Presbyterian, and attempted to join the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Then, I finally found out where I had belonged all along.
I’m a freelance writer, coffee guzzler, and longtime homeschooling mom – though not in that order! Currently, my 11th grader is at home while her younger siblings are now in Catholic school. I’m also a reluctant fitness enthusiast (I’m enthusiastic about food and fitting into my jeans, so I work out, you know?).
I like nerdy sci-fi and fantasy books and shows. I love music and want to get back to playing the clarinet. And, I’m currently in the early stages of exploring whether I may have a vocation to be a part of the Secular Franciscan Order.
At The Green Catholic Burrow, I write about my own conversion to and new experiences in the Catholic Church. My focus is on creating resources to help other converts along the road home, as well as helping lifelong Catholics see their ancient faith through fresh eyes.
